We are pleased to announce the opening of the Parent Module for Genesis, the online student information system used by the district.  The system is presently available for parents of students k-12 offering access to your child’s academic records.  Specifically, this web based system will enable you to access your child’s grades, attendance, discipline record, and other important information from any computer with an internet connection.

The Grade book module in the parent portal is now available.  Grade book gives parents real-time access to view their child's class assignment grades.

The web site, parents.hillsidek12.org, will provide you with the information you need to access your child's attendance and academic records. Information will continually be updated. In order to create user accounts and passwords, you must email:

·         your first and last name

·         your child/ren’s names

·         your email address

Please email this information to kmilner@hillsidek12.org  by April 30, 2012.  Upon receipt of your information, you will electronically receive instructions to set up an account.

Report Cards will no longer be routinely mailed. If you do not have internet access, contact your child’s school.  Arrangements will be made for you to receive a hard copy of the report card.
Direct any questions or concerns to your child's school.

SAFETY AND SECURITY

INFORMATION

SAFETY VERY IMPORTANT

Use the crosswalk when dropping off and picking up your child.

Do not park or drop off children in the school lot. Do not drop off your child or park near the yellow curb
traffic jams occur because of this and delay the buses for drop off and pick up. Please have your children arrive at school close to the bell at 8:35 and return home promptly from the 2:55 dismissal from school.

Always have identification with you when picking up your child during the school day. Please note that only the listed guardians or emergency contacts on the emergency card will have the authority to remove a child from the building.

All doors remain locked during the school day. Please ring the front entrance bell for assistance.

Hurden Looker is a proud participant in the Academy for Leadership in Science Instruction. See the attachment.

Student Dismissal

Parents please make sure that you have a dismissal plan for your child. Our dismissal is challenged by school bus pick up and drop off in the back of the building. It is also challenged by the high school dismissal in the front of our building. It is very important that you encourage your child to walk home immediately after school if he or she is a walker. If you or someone you have designated is picking up your child, please remain behind the cones so that the teachers and aides can see who is picking up the children. We want to make sure that students are being picked up by their parents or those designated to pick them up. See the attached notice so that you or the person assigned to pick up your child will know the correct location for pick up.

Hurden-Looker Boys to Men Mentoring Program

Hurden Looker School’s Boys to Men Mentoring Program

Hurden Looker’s Boys to Men Program was created to get the community and parents to interact with our boys in a positive way. This program is an after school activity held one day during the week. It is a helpful way for our boys to end their week in a positive and rewarding way. The program has included motivational presentations from me as their principal and other positive role models from our schools and community.

All those who participate will be expected to behave and listen to the presentations. We do not tolerate disruptive or disrespectful students. All presentations and materials will be for the benefit of teaching our male students how to make good decisions as they grow into becoming men. There will be discussions with the boys to help them prepare for the academic challenges of the school year. There will also be discussions about how to refrain from violence and inappropriate behavior in school and in the community. Presentations will be given by the Boys and Girls Club of America, The Boy Scouts of America, David Shoe’s Inc., The Hillside Police Dept., and The Hillside High School JROTC program. Many more presentations will be shared by staff members and others from the community and vicinity.

Snacks will be served from time to time. The meetings have not been scheduled at this time. Notices will go out in December. Last year the program was a success and we are planning for the same success this year.
